Term: Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

A diet detailed in the Breaking the Vicious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall. The allowed carbohydrates have a molecular structure that is small enough to be transported across the surface of the small intestine into the blood stream. These carbohydrates do not need to be broken down by various processes of the digestive organs such as the pancreas or the intestinal cells surface enzymes. (4)
