Term: Metallothioneins (MTs)
Proteins that metabolize and regulate metals, synthesized primarily in the liver and kidneys. Their production is dependent of zinc and selenium and the amino acids histidine andcysteine. They offer protection from the effects of heavy metals in the body. (4)
